"American Colors"

American Basin, San Juan Mountains, Colorado

As I worked my way up this stream flowing down the center of American Basin, I was very excited when I found this spot. Given the name of the area, I couldn't imagine anything more fitting than capturing the beautiful red, white, and blue flowers surrounded by majestic mountain peaks. Throw in a few Columbine and a cascading stream and I knew I had an instant classic. After composing, I resigned to waiting several hours for a lull in the steady breeze combined with a cloud passing overhead to soften the light, and I got it!
