"Mountain Meadow"

San Juan Mountains, Colorado

As summer begins to wind down, the high apline slopes of the San Juan Mountains in Colorado spring into life briefly along streams fed by melting snow. At an elevation of 12,000 ft, the thin rocky slopes dry quickly under the intense rays of sunlight, but within the stream bed the soil drinks deeply to sustain an amazing bouquet of wildflowers.
