"Watered Garden"

San Juan Mountains, Colorado

Water is so integral to life, even on the alpine slopes in Colorado's San Juan Mountains. In an otherwise barren and rocky landscape high above the tree line, a lush and colorful mountain garden flourishes all along the banks of this stream fed by a steady flow of melting snow. The yellow and red paintbrush nicely accent a beautiful grouping of marroon King's crown, one of my personal favorites, in addition to the yellow cinquefoil and white bittercress.
